The Dutch Oncology Research Platform (DORP) is organizing a webinar on June 19th, 2020, about the methodological challenges of the Trial within Cohorts (TwiCs) design applied to oncology.
The TwiCs design is a study design which uses observational cohorts to facilitate randomized trials. At the start of a cohort study, patients are asked, apart from participating in an observational cohort and permission to collect their data, to be randomized in future RCTs conducted within the cohort. Patients are informed that they will be offered an alternative intervention if they are randomized to that intervention. Patients are also informed that they otherwise might serve as controls without being notified about the alternative intervention and that their data can be used in a trial context. The TwiCs design faces several methodological challenges and implications which will be discussed during this webinar. The central question will be determining the position of the TwiCs design within oncology research. The session will offer participants the opportunity to interact with academic experts on this topic.
